In 1831, a band of vigilantes from Wallingford trekked to Patch Hollow. Their intent was to tar and feather Rolon Wheeler, resident of the Hollow, for reports that he had commited an indiscretion with his sister-in-law. When the posse invaded Rolon's home, Rolon stabbed and killed Isaac Osborne. The vigilantes fled and were subsequently fined while Wheeler was aquitted. The town of Patch Hollow no longer exists.
